Dahlia Floral Splendor!

The Dahlia comes in such an array of colours, all you need do is choose one (or more) to plant in your garden.  The flowers bloom in sizes from miniatures, all the way to dinner size plates.  Lasting from Summer through to Autumn and is only halted by frost.  Easy to grow in a sunny location, you'll want to cut some for your indoor pleasure, to add a vaseful to any room in your home!

The flowers of Summer!

Is there any better way to enjoy the flowers of Summer then to walk in nature? A gardenful of blooms is a joy to behold.  The floral aroma on a sunny, summer day is heavenly.  Also attracted to the colours and scents of the floral world are the birds and the bees, and other insect pollinators.  I think it's time to stop and smell the proverbial roses!

Hundred leafed flower...Marigold!

The Classy Echinacea!

One of the most popular native wildflowers is the Echinacea, aka Purple Coneflower.  By mid-summer, these flowers are in full bloom.  Colours vary from rose-pink to mauve-purple, surrounded by it's orange brown core. Attractive to bees and butterflies, a wonderful bloom to admire in the garden. Not just a classy flower, they are heat & drought resistant too, making them one tough plant!

Sweet Lemonade Peony!

Oh...the beloved Peony! It is a big, beautiful blossom and oh so fragrant!  The Peony is the national flower of China and is named the King of flowers.  It is no wonder they are one of the best known and most favourite perennials in the gardening world.  With little or no attention required, the Peony may last up to 100 years!   You may wish to try planting a Peony tree, which can grow up to 6' tall.

'Old Man's Beard' aka Clematis!

A cute nickname to be sure, but the Clematis is really a beautiful vine for all to see.  Being such a versatile plant, it is no wonder it is such a garden favourite. It can be grown on walls, fences, in containers, or left to grow unchecked amongst shrubs, or as ground cover.  It is a pleasure to grow Clematis, and in no time at all you will be rewarded with an abundance of glorious blooms!

Egyptian Starcluster!

The Pentas flower aka Egyptian Starcluster, is the one to plant for your best bet to attract butterflies to your garden.  Blooming all Summer long, even during the hottest weather.  This little gem of a plant will do well in containers, the garden; even as a houseplant, if you have enough light.  Plant in full sun in your garden, with moist soil for the Pentas to flourish!

Garden Favourite - Black Eyed Susan!

The all time garden favourite Rudbeckia aka Coneflower or Black Eye Susan, is no push-over in the floral world.  With it's stunning cinnamon, burnt orange colouring, it's clear to see why this perennial can be easily found in the garden's world. The world of Zinnias!

What's your favourite colour?  You will likely find it in Zinnia flowers, as they grow in just about every colour you can think of.  These annual flowers are available in pink, yellow, orange, red, and green (yes green), you decide! They have a likeness to the daisy, as they are from the same family, and of the sunflower plant as well.  A long lasting and brightly coloured flower that's easy to grow from seeds too, for just pennies!  

Canna Lily Majesty!

The Canna Lily is easy to grow, low maintenance, with big, beautiful blooms and foliage.  While they don't really look very lily-like, that is because they are not really lilies.  That's okay, because these beauties are in a league all their own. These gorgeous perennials grows tall with multiple, large blooms in colours of red, orange and yellow.  They will grow rapidly in containers or your garden, a sure bet, when it comes to a winning garden!

'White Madonna' African Violet!

The perfect houseplant?  It may just be the African Violet!  This popular houseplant can bloom all year long!  Blooms of purple or pink are common, but the White Madonna variety is just as pretty. Wild Columbine Wildflower

The pretty Eastern Red Columbine wildflower is admired for it's delicate red and yellow petals.  This bell-shaped flower easily grows from seeds, and grows well in sun or shade.  Hummingbirds and long-tongued insects love the nectar in the tubes of this flower.  These old-fashioned Columbines look ornamental and are great for woodland areas, the cottage or home.

Water Barrel & the Hydrangea!

Originally discovered in Japan, the hydrangea's meaning is derived from the Greek "hydor" meaning water and "angos" meaning vessel (jar).  This loosely translates to "water barrel", which refers to the hydrangea's plentiful need of water.  These pretty pom pom star shaped flowers will look just delightful in the garden!  You won't need to prune this shrub if placed in an area left to flourish naturally.  By nature's standard, they're just big and beautiful!

Indeed, Bearded Iris!

The Bearded Iris lives up to it's name with a beard-like yellow cluster of hairs on it's petals!  This makes the beardless Iris look 'clean-shaven', by comparison. Iris' can be grown anywhere in the garden, but some of the species need a free-draining, sunny position.  The Iris is a welcome perennial to have around as they bloom between Spring and Summer; a welcome sight indeed, with or without a beard!

Golden Yellow Peony

This luscious golden yellow peony is known as the flower of riches and honour. Pasque Flower & Seedhead

The seedhead of the Pasque Flower is made up of  unique long, pink silky hairs. In fact, the bloom of the plant is a purple flower with 5-8 petals.  The colour range of the petals can be dark lavender to white, with yellow stamens at the center.  This pretty little plant is popular in many home gardens, but blooms only on warm & sunny days during the Spring.  Surely to be enjoyed, while they last!
